board berbasis chipset Intel generasi berikutnya. Atas dasar perjanjian
yang kami buat dengan pihak ASUS, kami tidak berhak mensinyalir jenis
chipset yang digunakan. Akan tetapi, Anda tentunya tahu basis chipset
Intel apa yang digunakan semua board ASUS ini bukan? Hints: Ini adalah
chipset yang belum hadir di pasaran dan akan segera diluncurkan.
Sebenarnya, foto-foto dari motherboard dengan chipset ini sudah banyak
kami liput selama Computex 2011 yang lalu.
P9X79 Series
Motherboard P9X79 Pro
Ini adalah seri “biasa’ dari jajaran motherboard ASUS terbaru yang
ditampilkan. Berikut adalah beberapa keunggulan khusus yang
ditawarkannya:
DIGI+ Power Control: Jika sebelumnya pengendalian
daya pada board ASUS hanya menggunakan 1 chip EPU saja, sekarang ASUS
mengimplementasikan penggunaan 2 chip, 1 untuk CPU dan 1 untuk DRAM. Hal
ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan presisi dan kestabilan. Tentu saja,
kemampuan overclocking pun dijanjikan akan kian meningkat.
ASUS SSD Caching: Berhubung Intel tidak melakukan
penanaman fitur SSD caching seperti pada Z68, ASUS menggunakan sistem
SSD caching-nya sendiri. Satu hal yang menarik pada SD caching ASUS ini
adalah kemudahan instalasinya. Hanya dibutuhkan 1x klik untuk
mengaktifkannya. Kita pun tidak perlu “membongkar” partisi jika ingin
mencabut SSD cache. Sistem ini memang jauh lebih fleksibel dari yang
kami temui pada Z68. Performa yang ditawarkan pun cukup menarik: booting
35% lebih cepat dan sistem copy data hingga 3x lebih kencang.
BT GO 3.0: Pada board seri P9X79, modul bluetooth
sudah diikutsertakan. BT GO 3.0 yang dipakainya ini sudah memiliki
kecepatan jauh lebih tinggi (untuk konektivitas dengan BT 3.0), tetapi
tetap kompatibel dengan perangkat Bluetooth versi sebelumnya. Sebagai
catatan, BT 3.0 memiliki kecepatan 8x lipat dibandingkan BT 2.1 (24Mbps
vs 3Mbps).
USB BIOS Flashback: Ini adalah fitur yang
memungkinkan update BIOS tanpa melakukan proses booting! Anda cukup
menancapkan USB flashdisk dengan BIOS baru, tekan tombol di panel
belakang, dan BIOS Anda akan langsung di-upgrade.
UEFI BIOS: Sistem UEFI BIOS ASUS yang sudah terkenal
nyaman digunakan kini dibuat lebih nyaman lagi. Menu setting favorit
dan kemampuan untuk mendeteksi masalah pada slot RAM tertentu adalah
sebagian dari fitur barunya.
USB 3.0 Boost: Ini adalah fitur yang mengoptimalkan
kecepatan transfer pada USB 3.0. ASUS menancapkan chip UASP untuk
meningkatkan performa saat terkoneksi dengan perangkat UASP. Sementara
itu, untuk perangkat USB 3.0 biasa, Turbo mode dihidupkan untuk
meningkatkan performa. Tentu saja, ini akan terasa apabila Anda
menggunakan perangkat USB 3.0 yang kencang seperti flashdisk USB 3.0
berkecepatan tinggi atau SSD USB 3.0.
TUF series: SABERTOOTH X79
Motherboard TUF Sabertooth X79
Seri motherboard ini adalah seri yang menarik bagi kami. Sebab, TUF
series atau yang akhir-akhir ini dikenal dengan nama SABERTOOTH, adalah
jajaran board yang dirancang untuk memiliki daya tahan tinggi. TUF
series dirancang untuk Anda yang ingin memiliki sebuah sistem yang
bekerja secara intensif dalam rentang waktu lama dan memiliki performa
tinggi.
TUF Sabertooth X79 mengorbankan 'sedikit' space dibackpanel untuk mengakomodasi kipas pendingin VRM
Beberapa fitur dari seri P9X79 seperti ASUS SSD caching dan DIGI+
power control juga digunakan pada TUF series ini. Selain fitur tersebut,
berikut adalah fitur khusus pada SABERTOOTH generasi terbaru ini:
Thermal Radar: Board ini memiliki 12 titik sensor
suhu yang bisa dimonitor secara bersamaan. Fitur ini berguna untuk
mendeteksi adanya kelainan pada sistem pendinginan di dalam casing.
Dipadu dengan pengaturan kecepatan fan dan monitor tegangan fitur ini
menjadi kian efektif. ASUS bahkan menyediakan profiling untuk
mempermudah Anda menekan suhu di dalam casing.
Sertifikasi standar militer: Komponen TUF series
kini sudah memiliki sertifikasi standar militer. Hal ini dilakukan untuk
memastikan kemampuannya bertahan hidup lama dengan performa tinggi.
Pengujian yang lebih ‘keras’: TUF series terbaru
sudah melalui pengujian server-grade yang lebih ekstrim dibandingkan
pendahulunya dan board lain. Uji ketahanan sekarang sudah mencapai
pengujian pada suhu 60 derajat Celsius (terendah -10 C) dan tingkat
kelembaban 90%. Hal ini dilakukan agar TUF series dapat digunakan siapa
saja dimana saja.
Thermal Armor: Sabertooth sebelumnya sudah
menggunakan Thermal Armor. Hanya saja, pada seri ini sistem yang
digunakan sedikit berbeda. ASUS mengimplementasikan dua pendingin
terpisah, satu untuk chipset board dan satu lagi untuk komponen catu
daya prosesor. Keduanya menggunakan sistem fan untuk memastikan suhu
dapat dijaga serendah mungkin. Uniknya, aliran udara pada sistem
pendingin catu daya CPU dirancang untuk membuang panas melalui backplate
panel. ASUS mengklaim bahwa sistem ini bisa merendahkan suhu hingga
sekitar 7 derajat Celsius.

A few things to know before you start taking your laptop apart

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) can kill your computer
ESD can permanently damage your laptop. Always ware ESD wrist strap when you work with internal computer components.

How notebook screws are marked
|

In Toshiba notebooks most screws are marked. Here are some examples:
F4 - flat-head screw 4mm long
B6 - button-head screw 6mm long
F16 - flat-head screw 16mm long
B8 - button-head screw 8mm long
When you are taking apart a laptop you'll have to deal with lots of screws. Keep everything organized.

Removing Memory Modules
|
Carefully spread latches on both sides of the memory slot with your fingers.
|
The memory module will pop up at 30 degrees angle.
|
Carefully pull the memory module from the slot by the edges.
|
|
|
Removing Wireless Card
|
|
|
Disconnecting Keyboard
|
Before you pull the keyboard cable from the connector on the motherboard, you'll have to open up the connector.
|
Unlock the cable by moving the connector lock (brown piece on this picture) up.
|
After the connector is unlocked you can pull
the cable. Be very careful with the connector. If you accidentally
damage the connector, you'll have to replace the motherboard.
|

Removing Modem Card
|
Usually the modem is secured to the motherboard by two screws. Remove them.
|
To disconnect the modem from the motherboard lift it up.
|
The
connector is located under the modem and you cannot see it until the
modem is remove. After the modem is removed, disconnect the cable (on
the left side). |
|
CPU came out attached to heatsink
|
| In some cases, when you remove
the heat sink, the CPU might get out attached to the heat sink. DO NOT
install it back into the socket like that, separate the CPU from the
heat sink first. |
CPU came out attached to the heat sink because thermal paste dried out and glued the processor.
|
Insert a flathead screwdriver between the CPU
and the heat sink surface. Carefully rotate the screwdriver until the
CPU separates from the heat sink.
|
Lift up the CPU and install it back into the
socket on the motherboard. Now you can safely remove old thermal paste
and apply a new layer of paste.
|
|

Removing and Installing CPU
|
The CPU is locked in the socket. Before you
can remove the CPU, you'll have to unlock the socket. Use a flathead
screwdriver and turn the socket screw to "Open" position.
|
Lift up the CPU by the edges. Be careful,
there are a lot of fragile pins on the opposite side of the CPU. You
should be able to install the CPU back into the socket without any
force.
|
There is only one correct way to install the
processor into the socket. Both CPU and socket are keyed. When you are
installing the CPU, make sure to match pins on the processor with holes
on the socket.
|
Before applying thermal grease on the CPU, clean the surface with alcohol.
|
After the CPU surface is cleaned, apply a small drop of thermal grease.
|
Spread thermal grease evenly and install the heat sink
|
|
|
